Despite the coronavirus and quarantine, the last two years were by far the best years of my life. I've changed a lot, grew a lot personally, become closer to my family and now I have an American host family that has all my love.

Throughout this process, these women and girls inspired me to be a better version of myself as a woman, daughter, sister and friend:

1. Esther Porcayo Sandoval

My grandma raised me, she is like my second mother. This 70-year-old woman taught me by example that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, no matter how hard the challenge is you can begin again and everythig is going to be OK.

2. Marisol Rodríguez Porcayo

She was just a teenager when she became my mom. We have grown together and learned that everything doesn't have to be perfect. We are just people trying to figure each other out.

Looking at her, I learned that the more the odds are stacked against my mom, the more she fights.

3. Jazmín Acevedo Rodríguez

She is my little sister. This young woman is the one who always listen to me, is interested, and make me feel special. I'm so proud looking how she forges her own path, guided by her compassion and strong sense of community.

4. Diana Brenda Trejo

During the last ten years, I've learned so much from my best friend, but the most important thing she taught me is to know the kind of friend I want to be. She never judges me and when I'm down shares my pain, but also when I'm up she's somewhere cheering and smiling more than anyone else.

Any person would be lucky to have her on their side.

5. Eve Zaritsky

My host mom stood by my side through one of the most complicated times during the pandemic. She is definitely one of the women that I admire most. It’s hard to describe in words how much she means to me as a mentor, boss and friend but I'm so happy to have the opportunity of discover America by her side.

6. Eleanor Hazel Hill

When I first met Ellie, I underestimated my oldest host kid. She has by nature a clear, unwavering sense of self. This girl knows perfectly who she is and what she wants. She literally is one of my best life-changing teachers.

7. Esther Vera Hill

My little host kid is fearless, possessing a confidence I wish I had at her age. It boggles one's mind how a young person like Esty can possess such poise and self-reliance.

Thanks grandma, mom, Jazmín, Brenda, Eve, Eleanor and Esther! Thank you for let me be part of your life, sharing all your love with me and inspire me to be a better human being!
